PDBC has assembled a quality coaching team designed to meet the individual needs of each athlete and the collective goals of their assigned crew. The coaching staff has a collective goal to promote club spirit and overall sport development. Together the coaching staff has an accumulation of over 60 years of paddling experience.

Scott Murray
President, Club Head Coach, Senior A, Senior C
scott Scott founded the Pickering Dragon Boat Club in 2002. His many coaching experiences have allowed him to coach high school, corporate, community and sport-based crews during the past 24 years. Scott has coached at several World Championship events across the globe, from Toronto to Africa, Hungary to China and more. In addition to PDBC, Scott has coached the Canadian National Senior A team since 2013, and has led the team to 4 consecutive titles as World Champions. Scott holds the highest level of experience and education in dragon boat racing, possibly across the world, and is currently focused on the Senior A and Senior C dragon boat programs at PDBC.

Jordan Morgan
24U-PS, Premier Open/Mixed
jordan Jordan is the founder of the UGDBC dragon boat program at the University of Guelph, and has been the primary coach for many programs at PDBC including Senior C, 24U-PS, and Premier. He successfully led PDBC’s 24U team to a National title at the Canadian Championships in 2014/2022/2023/2024, and the Senior C program to titles in 2015 and 2016. Jordan has competed internationally as an athlete with the Canadian 24U National team, as a member of the Canadian Premier Open team, and has also competed with PDBC Premier at the CCWC's in 2016 and 2024. He is a Level 2 DBC Certified Coach, was the 24U-PS National Team Coach in 2025, and is currently focused on PDBC’s Premier Open/Mixed Programs.

Katrina “Kat” Kraemer
Premier Women
kat Katrina has been involved in competitive dragon boat racing since 2018, paddling with PDBC’s 24U-PS and Premier teams through 2021. She went on to coach, steer and drum across multiple PDBC programs including Junior, 24U-PS, Senior B, Hana Nui Red, Premier and Senior A teams. Katrina began working with the Canadian National Team in 2023 as both a steersperson and drummer, which lead to her serving as the 16U National Team Coach in the 2025 cycle. Her current focus is on PDBC Premier Women.

Danielle Albers
Senior C

danielle Danielle has been a part of the paddling community since 2009 when she joined her high school team, and since that point, her love for paddling has only grown. In 2009 she was a member of the Junior National Dragon Team that competed at the World Championships in Prague. After this, she concentrated her efforts more in individual paddling through sprint canoe and kayak, attending 4 National Championship regattas. In 2017, she made a return to dragon boat racing and competed for PDBC at the Club Crew World Championships in Hungary with the Premier program. Since 2019, Danielle has been involved in coaching, steering and drumming with many of our PDBC crews. Danielle is DBC Level 1 Coaching certified, and is currently focused on co-coaching the Senior C program.

Brenda Arndt
Senior C
brenda Brenda began her dragon boat journey in 2007, joining the Hope Floats Breast Cancer Paddlers crew in 2009. She was a paddler for many years, attending many National and International events in multiple divisions, including BCP, Sr B Women, Sr C Women, ACP, PD2 and more. She then became the Canal Dragons team manager in 2019, and has been the Assistant Coach of the dragon boat program since 2022.. In 2025, Brenda became the coach for the first Women’s Crew to ever paddle across Lake Ontario, an accomplishment she is incredibly proud of. Brenda is a DBC certified Level 2 Coach, a Festival Official, an accredited Steersperson, and currently focuses her energy as the Assistant Coach for the PDBC Senior C program.

Ethan “Maverick” Lo
Senior B
mav Mav began paddling in 2016 and made it onto the Junior National team in 2019. He has since gone on to compete with the National team as a 24U in 2023, and as both a 24U and Premier in 2025. He has competed with PDBC’s 24U and Premier programs since 2023, and began coaching and steering with the club the same year. He is a DBC Level 1 Coach, is Steering Accredited, and holds certification as a Festival Official. He is currently the primary coach for the Senior B program at PDBC.

Steve Wilkes
Hana Nui Red
steve Steve has been a member of the Pickering Dragon Boat Club since 2007. He has competed at five CCWC's (Macau, Hong Kong, Italy, Hungary and Italy in 2024) earning multiple gold medals, is an 8-time Canadian National Champion, and a member of the gold winning 2015 Canadian National Senior A Team.   On a professional level, Steve transitioned to coaching for PDBC in 2022 and is a certified DBC Level 2 Coach, accredited in Safe Steering, CPR/AED trained, and a licensed Boat Operator.

Mike O’Reilly
Revved Up/Fired Up!
mike Mike began paddling in 2004 with PDBC and quickly progressed to the highest level of the sport. A former national team athlete, he went on to serve in National Team leadership roles with the 24U team in 2015 & 2017, and then the Junior team in 2019. Mike has coached numerous crews through PDBC and the National team to achieve international podium finishes and brings deep experience as both a coach and official. Mike is a certified DBC Level 2 Coach, is Steering Accredited, is a Festival Official and is currently the co-head coach for PDBC Revved Up! and Fired Up!

Lorenzo Giovannone
Revved Up/Fired Up!
lorenzo Lorenzo began his dragon boat journey in high school, when he was introduced to racing in Grade 9. Since then, he has grown tremendously within the sport; he began coaching in Grade 11 and continued to coach with his high school until 2020, when COVID finally shut down the dragon boat program. He was reintroduced to the sport post-COVID when he joined PDBC as an athlete in 2021, and once again quickly took on a coaching role beside Nancy Jones in 2023. Lorenzo is certified in Level 1 DBC Coaching and since the retirement of Nancy Jones, has stepped in to fill the role of co-head coach for PDBC Revved Up! And Fired Up!

Erica Johncox
PDBC Light
erica Erica began her dragon boat journey in 2021, when she joined the Guelph Gryphons through her University. Within a short period of time, she took on the responsibility of acting as the dryland coach for the crew, and was later recruited to paddle with the 24U program at PDBC. Between 2022 and 2024, she competed with the competitive 24U program and competed at the Club Crew World Championships in Italy in 2024. In 2025, Erica began apprentice coaching and took on the PDBC Light program, which is a once a week team for beginners. Erica is now a paddler for the PDBC Premier program, a coach for PDBC Light, and an official apprentice for the Alkame Festival Series.

Bryce Ogden
Junior/16U
bryce Bryce began paddling dragon boat in 2022 and quickly gained a passion for the sport through the community he found. He competed at the CCWC’s in Florida in 2022, as well as in Italy in 2025, returning home well decorated with awards. In 2025, he was a part of the 24U National Team, competing in Germany in both the Mixed and Open Divisions, where he earned multiple gold and silver medals. Bryce currently paddles with the PDBC Premier team, is the assistant coach to the University of Guelph dragon boat club, and has taken on an assistant role with the PDBC 16U/Junior program.

Emma Christie
Junior/16U
emma Emma has been paddling for 5 years, 4 of which have been with PDBC. She began paddling with the Guelph Gryphons Dragon Boat Club in 2021, where she became the Head Coach at the beginning of her third year. During this time, she worked with brand new paddlers and turned them into successful athletes. As an athlete, she has paddled with PDBC’s 24U and Premier Women’s programs and went to the Club Crew World Championships in Italy in 2024. She has been the drummer for numerous crews at PDBC, and was the Canadian National Team drummer for 24U-PS at the 2025 World Dragon Boat Championships in Germany. She holds DBC Safe Steering Accreditation, First Aid/CPR C and Safe Sport certifications. She believes that at its core, dragon boat is meant to be fun and structures her coaching around this to ensure the successful and sustainable development of athletes!

Tryphena “T.K” Kobelyk
PARA/Special Needs
TK T.K joined PDBC in 2017 and transitioned to the competitive program in 2019, where she went on to compete nationally and internationally with PDBC Senior A and Senior B. After COVID cancelled the Club Crew World Championships in France in 2020, T.K returned to the sport in 2022 and went on to compete and earn multiple medals at the CCWC’s in Sarasota, Florida. Unfortunately, she suffered from a back injury that prevented her from continuing with her paddling journey, but her passion for the sport allowed her to transition easily into a coaching and steering role. She has been a client coach with The Wahoos since 2023, and is now one of the primary coaches for PDBC’s newest program, PDBC Ohana.

Katy Dunlop
Vice President, Operations & Philanthropy
katy Katy has been a member of the Pickering Dragon Boat Club since 2015, and competed with Premier Women in 2016, winning a gold medal at the Canadian National Championships. Katy took a step back from paddling to focus on business and family but returned to the Senior A Mixed program in 2025 and will compete at the CCWC’s in Taiwan in 2026. Her primary focus within PDBC is operations, fundraising and philanthropy.

Arline Killam
PARA/Special Needs
arline Arline Killam joined PDBC in 2017 and has since become a dedicated and versatile contributor to the club. She earned National Team athlete status in both 2023 and 2025, demonstrating her commitment, athleticism, and competitive excellence. In 2021, Arline expanded her involvement by stepping into steering and coaching roles, bringing leadership and technical insight to her crews. She currently holds her Level 1 coaching certification and continues to support athlete development with skill, enthusiasm, and a strong team-focused mindset.

Bridget Stevens
Membership Coordinator
bridget Bridget has been a member of PDBC for over 15 years, and has competed both nationally and internationally with the club over many cycles, earning National and World Champion titles on multiple occasions. She was a member of the Senior B (2017) and Senior C National Team (2023 and 2025), and is currently a member of PDBC’s Senior C, Senior B and Premier programs. Bridget retired from her professional life as a teacher and became the Membership Coordinator for PDBC in 2019. Since then, she has gone on to achieve certification in Level 1 DBC Coaching and Festival Official.

Andrew “Muff” Milner
Retired PDBC Coach/Replacement Coach
andrew Andrew is a fully certified IDBF race official and is recognized as one of the best and most experienced race officials in Canada. Andrew has approximately 25 years of paddling experience in dragon boat and flatwater, and as a coach he has led crews of all levels to achieve national and international success. Andrew was the Head Coach of the Canadian National 24U team in 2013, 2015 and 2017. He took a step back from regular coaching at PDBC when his daughter was born, but still acts as a regular replacement coach and is a vital asset to the club.

Nancy Jones
Retired Head Coach - Recreational Program
nancy Nancy is a fully certified Level ll Dragon Boat Coach with an ICF Certified Coaching designation. Nancy began paddling in 2003, has paddled competitively since 2006, and has earned medals from many International Championships including Toronto, Malaysia, Italy, Australia, Czech Republic, Welland and Hungary. Nancy became the Head Coach of PDBC’s Recreational Program in 2022 and with her great leadership skills and enthusiasm, she has facilitated the development of many recreational teams. Although Nancy retired from her official coaching and paddling duties in 2025, she remains a valuable asset to the club.

Karen Townsend
Coach/Steersperson
karen Karen brings over 10 years experience to the sport of dragon boat racing. After paddling recreationally with various clubs in the GTA, she found her home within the Pickering Dragon Boat Club. Having grown through the PDBC Recreational program Karen made the move to the competitive program, winning two Canadian Club Crew Championships with PDBC in 2017. After stepping back from paddling, Karen completed her Level One Coaching Certification, and joined the Recreational Program as a coach, and the Competitive Program as a Steersperson. Although Karen officially retired from dragon boat in 2025, we still think there is a chance that she returns to steering our crews in 2026!
