Rules of Racing
Pickering Dragon Boat Challenge
Sport Mixed
- Must be members of the same club and DBC members
- Must bring DBC issued ID for the first sport race for roster checks
- Must be at an equal number of paddlers of each gender
- Max roster of 30 including drummer and steer
- For Small Crew racing, a maximum roster of 15, including the drummer and steer. Minimum of 4, maximum of 5 of each gender.
Sport Open
- Must be members of the same club and DBC members
- Must bring DBC issued ID for the first sport race for roster checks
- Any number of males and/or females is permitted
- Max roster of 30 including drummer and steer
- For Small Crew racing, a maximum roster of 15, including the drummer and steer.
Sport Women
- Must be an all-female crew, including the steersperson
- Must be members of the same club and DBC members
- Must bring DBC issued ID for the first sport race for roster checks
- Max roster of 30 including drummer and steer
- For Small Crew racing, a maximum roster of 15, including the drummer and steer. All female.
Sport Mixed/Open/Women Crews from outside of Canada
- Must be members of the same club
- Max roster of 30 including drummer and steer
24U-PS Mixed (formerly University Mixed)
- Must be members of the same club and DBC members
- All paddlers, steers, and drummers must be under the age of 24; alternatively, any numbers of paddlers, the steersperson, and the drummer may be registered full-time post-secondary students (for fall and/or winter terms of the prior academic year) from a single academic institution
- For 2023 ONLY, the steersperson may be of any age
- Must bring DBC issued ID for the first sport race for roster checks
Recreation Mixed
- No age restrictions. Must have at least ten (10) female paddlers
Recreation Women
- Women: No age restrictions. All paddlers and drummer must be female
Youth Championships
- For teams using this as a qualifier, all members must be from the same club and DBC members
- Must bring DBC issued ID to the first race for roster checks
- Must be an equal number of paddlers of each gender
- All paddlers and the drummer must be 17 or younger on June 1st in a given year.
Up to two (2) paddlers may be aged over 17 but under 19 on June 1st in a given year - No restrictions on steers
Community Division
- No age restrictions. Must have at least ten (10) female paddlers
Deca Dragons
- No age restrictions. No gender restrictions.
- Max of 10 paddlers
